Hi Calvin, For visibility reasons it’s best practice to create a new post for a new topic.

Hi Calvin. Too bad yours can’t be converted. It’s a non-folding cradle or a trailer cradle? I see a few folding steel cradles for sale on kijiji.

This company was recommended to me previously:

Hi Peter, Any specific race dates in mind? Depending on the weekend, I’d be interested.

    Hi Tim,

It’s the weekend prior to Thanksgiving weekend. The weekend of Saturday October 3rd.

    July 9, 2020

TO ALL MEMBERS USING COMMERCIAL CRANE SERVICES

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING EMAIL SENT TO LATE HAUL SKIPPERS ON JUNE 28, 2020.

    To All Late Haul Captains,

Our team continues to try and adjust launch and haul with the commercial crane to improve safety, enhance efficiency and reduce costs. We altered our launch this year to a two day approach and with minor issues we were successful with these aims.

Our next initiative involves making better use of the large crane. As you are aware moving the crane is tedious, inefficient and costly. We have come up with a solution that will address this issue. We propose this fall to use the large crane at the C-dock parking area. The large crane can set up In one location and haul all boats (mast up and otherwise) in this area without having to move. This will save perhaps 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours twice a year!

We will do this by “bridging” two finger docks at C-dock with floating docks.(two sailing school docks will do nicely.) By doing so we will create a single haul platform where boats will be lifted while oriented parallel to the shoreline. Three boats on haul day can be “staged” at the service dock ready to move forward when the haul platform is clear. The cradles will be placed, similar to our current layout, but perhaps oriented differently. By taking advantage of the wider lift radius capacity, we calculate that up to 60 boats can be placed at C-dock parking area providing better spacing at A and J areas as a bonus to the improved efficiency and cost savings.

This is a significant departure from current practice. For this year, we have proposed to the Executive to adjust our haul schedule to a single haul weekend. The large crane will arrive on Saturday, while the small crane will haul A and J-dock parking areas on Sunday. This will be the weekend prior to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We respectfully ask you to support this change and offer our thanks for doing so.

If you have concerns or comments please contact me directly at my “slips” address or by phone (705-528-4786)

The result of this survey of Late Haul Skippers is as follows:

4 members were against eliminating Late Haul
6 members expressed support for the change
    20 members had no comment

This year 70% of members using commercial crane services chose early haul or did not make a choice.
30% of members chose Late Haul.
There are no clubs that I am aware of who offer two haul dates.

This information was presented to the Executive at our virtual meeting on Tuesday, July 7th. The following motion was carried by the Executive.

Moved by Bruce. Seconded by Iain.
MBSC shall move to a one haul system in the fall.
This will be the weekend prior to the Thanksgiving weekend.

On reflection, the cost savings indicated in the email above are likely underestimated. We will have a safer, more efficient haul as well.

I hope everyone can support this change. As above, if you have comments, please contact me directly.

    Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately I’m working today, but would love to check out the install sometime when our paths collide. Thank you!

    Hi Karen,

Sorry, I don’t have a machine at the moment. What’s the project?

I’ve been doing sewing repairs by hand this year and most likely have forgotten how to use my loaned out Janome. The Janome is not as heavy duty as a sailrite but it could do repairs on multiple layers of sunbrella.
