UPDATE ON THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS
The launch of boats by all reports has gone very well. Now it’s time to move to the next phase of the clubs’ activities under the veil of Covid 19.
As a club we have to protect one another and continue to operate under this Code of Conduct.
- FOLLOW THE GUIDLINES FROM PUBLIC HEALTH
First, if you have any symptoms you should err on the side of caution and stay away from others and the club until you are assured you are free of symptoms based on testing or medical advice.
Please wash your hands thoroughly and regularly when you are around the club or working on your boat.
- MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING
When you do come to the club we ask that you maintain social distancing and wear a mask if you must come into contact with non family members. We must be especially aware of distancing when we are on the docks as when passing another member you will be in close proximity to each other. Please wear a mask in these situations and wait on a finger dock until others pass.
- CLUBHOUSE REMAINS CLOSED
The clubhouse will remain closed to all members except for the two washrooms. Members using the open washrooms are asked to keep them as clean and sanitized as possible to help out our Club Steward. The washrooms will be quite regularly cleaned and sanitized to help with members’ safety.
- USE OF THE MAST CRANE AND PUMPOUT
Another area of concern is the use of the mast crane. Club rules require three people to safely operate the mast crane so some members will need the help of non family members. We ask that all persons using the mast crane wear a mask and strive to maintain social distancing as much as possible.
As for the pump out, we ask that you keep the area clean and sanitize the equipment following use. We suggest wearing disposable gloves (please dispose of garbage on your boat) and washing your hands after use.
- MONITORING WILL BE ENDING
We will be ending the monitors both at the gate and at the washroom entrance but this does not mean the Code of Conduct will be ending. We are relying on every member to act responsibly throughout the remainder of this pandemic’s restrictions. Should there prove to be issues of non compliance we will have to review the use of monitors and any other restrictions the Executive may feel are required.
- CRUISING RECOMMENDATIONS
Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada are reviewing recommendations on the use of boats this season. They are noting that guests should not be allowed on boats, either at the dock or out sailing. When cruising they recommend no rafting, no visits between boats, and no docking at other marinas or town docks. Until further notice we would support these recommendations and ask you to do so.
These are difficult times that we are going through. By following the Code of Conduct and doing your best to adhere to these rules you will help us get ahead of this virus and enable us to get back to a world with less restriction and a more open sport of sailing.
Keep well and feel free to contact any member of the Executive should you have any questions concerning our Code of Conduct.
On behalf of the Executive,
Commodore, Midland Bay Sailing Club.
